“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).

Psalm 1

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.”

 

The Oxford Dictionary defines the word communication as, “the successful conveying or sharing of ideas and feelings.” If a thought or an idea from an outside source doesn’t sound like the Bible, it probably is not God’s voice. Imagine the awe-inspiring thought that God is 100% love, 100% wise and 100% concerned for your ultimate good. His scriptural words are given to guide you, to inspire you and to empower you to do His will. Little wonder, then, that Psalm 138 states, “All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O Lord, when they have heard the words of Your mouth.” To meditate on His Word is to use the paintbrush of wisdom to paint your heart the color of His. To hear His voice is to understand His will and purpose for your life.

 

 

1. What sources do you currently listen to that provide your ears with the counsel of the wicked, the path of sinners and the seat of scoffers?
2. As you listen to their music, watch their TV and movies, and participate in their social media, what are you doing to instruct your mind in the language of “the world, the flesh and the devil”?
3. Bilingual people have a “primary language”, usually from the place they reside and spend the majority of their time communicating. All believers are bilingual; they speak the language of the flesh and the language of God. What is your primary language? Why?
4. “But His delight is in the law of the Lord” (verse 2). How do you define the word “delight”?
5. What is the difference between the words “duty” and “delight”?
6. John 14:23 – “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.’”
7. What is the difference between simply “hearing” The Shepherd’s call and “keeping” His Word?
8. What is your plan to “meditate on His Word day and night”?
9. What is God’s promise to the person who meditates on His Word day and night? (verse 3)

1. John 13:15 – “For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.” From today’s scripture, how does THE Shepherd inspire you to shepherd your flock?
